Ready to transform how you think about success in your law firm?
Let me share something that has completely changed the game for us at Tucker Disability Law. I’m talking about OKRs – Objectives and Key Results – and trust me, this isn’t just another management fad.
Most of us started our law firms with big dreams and ambitions. But somewhere between the client consultations, case files, and team meetings, those big-picture goals can get buried under daily operations. That’s exactly why I’m excited to tell you about a framework that’s helped us stay focused on what really matters.
I first discovered OKRs through John Doerr’s book Measure What Matters, and let me tell you – it was a lightbulb moment. While KPIs help you track performance, OKRs take you to a whole new level. They’re about setting those ambitious, visionary goals that get your team excited and motivated.
Let me break it down with a real example. At our firm, we might set an OKR like this: “Achieve 20% profit growth by Q4.” Sounds great, right? But here’s where the magic happens – we tie that to specific, measurable key results:
- Increase our effective hourly rate to $X
- Bring in 50 new disability cases by a set date
- Reach a team utilization rate of Y%
Why OKRs Matter for Your Law Firm
What I love about this approach is how it creates clarity.
Everyone on the team knows exactly what we’re aiming for and, more importantly, what specific steps will get us there. It’s like having a GPS for your firm’s success – you know the destination and the key checkpoints along the way.
Since implementing OKRs, I’ve noticed something interesting: our team meetings have become more focused and productive. Instead of getting lost in the weeds, we can quickly assess whether our actions align with our bigger objectives. It’s helped us prioritize what really matters and say no to things that don’t serve our goals.
Here’s what I’ve learned makes OKRs work: they need to be ambitious enough to inspire but realistic enough to be achievable with hard work. They should make you a little uncomfortable – that’s how you know you’re pushing for growth.
I encourage you to give OKRs a try in your firm. Start with one meaningful objective and 3-4 key results. Keep it simple at first – you can always build from there. And remember, the goal isn’t perfection; it’s progress and learning from the process.

Let’s Grow Our Business Together!
Generating new business is one of the best ways to ensure your business is growing in the right direction.
I’ve been practicing law for over 34 years. During that time I’ve had the privilege to both receive and give client referrals from fellow attorneys.
Client Referrals are one of the most powerful ways to grow your business. That’s why last year I decided to start my own Attorney Referral Partnership Program.
I know you’ve heard of other attorney referral programs but I’m offering something different:
- Including a monthly newsletter with business tips
- Ongoing disability education so you can qualify the client’s situation
- And soon, an individual portal that keeps you informed of your case referrals every step of the way
There’s no obligation so it’s a complete win-win for everyone.
If you have questions, don’t hesitate to call me at 866-828-4287.
